Linde Korea, the Korean subsidiary of the world-leading gas and engineering specialist company Linde, originally from Germany, visited a total of eight elementary schools (Chookdong, Songjung, Chilcheon, Gwangdo Elementary Schools) in Gyeongsangnam-do and Gyeonggi-do (Baekeui, Jeokam, Samjeong, Joongli Elementary Schools), conducting lessons for the Science Technology Ambassador Program for the year of 2011. This has continually been carried out in partnership with KFASC (Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity).
The Science Ambassador Program is run by the KFASC, offering science lessons taught by working scientists, to children who dream of becoming scientists in the future, in the purpose of enlightening interests in science, giving hope and motivation to their dreams.
Although this program enabled participation from universities and government organizations only, Linde Korea became the first private company to be elected as Science Technology Ambassador. Linde Korea has continued to pass on knowledge of science technology at elementary schools in isolated areas since 2009 with PhD standard professionals, as well as internally providing all expenses for equipment and lessons.
This year they carried out science lessons in eight schools in Gyeonggi-do and Gyeongsangsam-do, donating all financial support received from the KFASC to each school in the form of scholarships.
As one would expect from a global company with world-leading technology in the gas sector, Linde Korea presented various numbers of science experiments using liquefied nitrogen during their lessons. Practicing down-to-earth experiments that pupils may have interests in, Linde Korea received passionate cheers from the children with lessons on breaking a frozen rose, making ice-cream and freezing bananas with liquefied nitrogen.
Brett Kimber, President of Linde Korea, said that he was ‘very pleased that the Science Technology Ambassador Program was completed successfully again this year, of which we have participated in for the last three years’. He also noted that ‘it is very important for the future of Korea that children are interested in science technology, and Linde Korea will continue to work towards the development of the Korean society as a good corporate citizen of Korea’.
